About Hypnosis
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very relaxed state of consciousness. Think of it as that period of time just before you fall asleep—because it’s the same thing! Hypnosis is a natural state that increases levels of perception and strengthens the focus of attention (quite unlike the dark, mystical, controlling hypnotism of movies and fiction). During hypnosis, you always remain aware and in control.
How does Hypnosis work?
Your conscious mind contains everything that you’re aware of; your subconscious mind contains everything that you’re not aware of, including negative beliefs and thought patterns. Hypnosis is a way to access the subconscious in order to communicate with it your consciously chosen beliefs and thoughts. For example, you may have a desire to quit smoking. Consciously, you know it’s unhealthy. You may even find smoking to be unpleasant. Your subconscious, however, may believe smoking is necessary in order to remain calm and in control. Through hypnosis, you bring your conscious desires and beliefs into the subconscious in order to increase your chances of success and the ease with which you accomplish your goal.
How are the hypnosis sessions structured?
The first session is 60 to 90 minutes; subsequent sessions are 45 minutes to an hour.
Before we even begin, I will send you some paperwork to fill out. This gives me a good amount of information about you and your goals without cutting in to our valuable session time. Then, in the first session, we will discuss your goals further, I will answer any questions you may have, and then begin hypnosis.
I can’t tell you the exact number of sessions that you will need for your particular issue but to give you a general idea, smoking cessation generally works best with 3 sessions. My weight loss program is designed with 8 sessions, but you may begin to see results sooner. Other issues may be resolved in a single session. After assessing your specific goals, I can give you a better estimate.
Most hypnosis sessions take place at 267 William Street, Middletown, CT. Follow-up sessions or guided imagery for the purposes of relaxation may be conducted by phone or Skype, if desired and pre-arranged.

Physician referral is required for pain management or weight loss beyond 25 pounds. Psychiatric referral may be required for management of certain types of anxiety or other issues.
